Beating victim still 'critical'
The brutal beating of a St. George's man over the weekend was allegedly over a woman.
The 31-year-old twin was beaten on Reid Street and left unconscious and bleeding. He was found by a member of the public at 5.15 a.m. on Saturday outside Joell's Alley, in Hamilton. Last night his was said to be back in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
A close relative who didn't want to be identified said the beating was because of a woman.
"Apparently they're saying that it had something to do with a woman and it's definitely supposed to be somebody from Parkside.
"At this point he's stable and everything but they have had some other not to good news today. I still don't think it's life threatening but it's not good news.
The relative said the beating was done by two men and asked about the incident being a case of mistaken identity since the man is a twin, the relative said: "Well that's what the Police are trying to say. That's what they [the family] have been told.
The family member said the attack came at a terrible time. "Unfortunately their mom is, well she just went blind in the last three weeks.
"It is just very stressful for everybody. He was very supportive to his mother."
On Saturday, a Police spokesman said: "Details about what occurred are unclear at the moment, however the victim, a 31-year-old St. George's man, was found in an unresponsive state lying in the road by a member of the public."
The man was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was treated for head and internal injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone with any information, particularly anyone who may have been leaving Champions Private Sports Club and witnessed the attack should contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hot line on 800-8477.
