Belco worker hurt in freak accident

Terry Pereira suffered multiple injuries after falling from the forklift at the generating firm's Pembroke headquarters and was rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
Last night Mr. Pereira's family were keeping a bedside vigil at the King Edward.
Mr. Pereira's father-in-law Vincent Wheatley said that Mr. Pereira's injuries included broken ribs, his pelvis and a shoulder in the fall.
He added: "He was very badly injured and remains in intensive care.'' It is understood Mr. Pereira was acting as foreman in the yard at the Belco plant on Serpentine Road when the accident happened.
A spokeswoman for the King Edward last night said Mr. Pereira's condition was "satisfactory.'' Yesterday, a spokeswoman for Belco said a full report on the incident had been prepared by the firm's health and safety watchdogs and the Goverment Health and Safety at Work Department.
Belco worker injured in accident It is believed Mr. Pereira -- who only has one leg -- fell just a few feet from the truck. But his physical handicap meant he landed awkwardly, which caused his severe injuries.
The Belco spokeswoman added: "We have a health and safety committee which meets on a regular basis and reviews any accident.''
