Warbaby Fox diverted to search for windsurfer
A public ferry was diverted to help trace a missing windsurfer yesterday after his friend lost sight of him in the Great Sound.
The Warbaby Fox was called upon for assistance after the 50-year-old man went missing for an hour.
He was spotted by the ferry crew 15 minutes later near Dockyard, having sailed over the water from Spanish Point.
A spokesman for Bermuda Maritime Operations said the man's windsurfing friend lost sight of him and called 911 after failing to locate him for an hour.
Harbour Radio then issued a 'PANPAN' broadcast at 5.54 p.m. and contacted the Marine Police.
The spokesman said the Warbaby Fox was in the area "so we diverted the ferry to look for him. It went to the area off Dockyard where the crew located the man, still windsurfing, at 6.10 p.m.".
He said he did not know whether passengers were on board the ferry at the time of the incident.
The windsurfer was unharmed.

Police flooded with calls about recovered jewellery
Police say they have been overwhelmed with inquiries after recovering what is thought to be stolen jewellery.

A Police spokesperson said: "The Police would like to assure the public that all calls and messages received inquiring about these items will be returned in a timely manner.
"Due to the current volume of calls it is not possible to respond immediately.
"We would like to thank the public for their understanding and cooperation during this process."
