Premier Brown stranded in London
Premier Dr. Ewart Brown has not been spared the inconvenience felt by countless travellers as flights remain grounded across Europe.
Dr. Brown, who has been in England promoting Bermuda tourism, was last night stuck in London, prevented from flying due to a volcanic eruption in Iceland earlier this week.
"Safety comes first," the Premier said last night via e-mail. "Of course we are all inconvenienced but so are hundreds of thousands of passengers throughout the world. We'll fly when the authorities give the green light. Until then, we keep working without regard to geography."
And British Airways has cancelled all inbound and outbound flights today while volcanic ash continues to affect European airspace.
British Airways' local airport ticket office will open again on Saturday from 1 p.m. — 6 p.m. Passengers on cancelled flights are reminded that they must re-book by either calling 1 800 AIRWAYS, using the website www.ba.com or by visiting the ticket office which has been opened to assist Bermuda passengers.
Several Hamilton roads will be closed today
The Corporation of Hamilton issued a traffic advisory yesterday.
Court Street between Church and Victoria Streets will be closed to all traffic today Saturday April 17 from 6.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. for infrastructure work to the new court building.
And Front Street will have lane restrictions today between 7.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m. from Bermudiana Road to Burnaby Street to accommodate the installation of underground utilities.
On Sunday April 18, Front Street will be closed from Bermudiana Road to Parliament Street between 7.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. to allow work crews to pave both lanes of Front Street.
The road paving that was scheduled to take place last weekend was postponed because the paving machine broke down.
Burnaby Street will also be closed to traffic at Reid Street.
