Home burgled while resident was outside gardening

A quantity of cash was stolen from an Hamilton Parish home on Thursday.

Police attended the Kitty's Drive residence around 2 p.m. where the complainant said that around 10 a.m. she was out in her yard gardening.

When she returned inside, sometime after she discovered an unknown culprit broke into her unoccupied home and stole a quantity of cash.

A 37-year-old Hamilton parish man was subsequently arrested in connection with this incident. Inquiries are ongoing.

Residents are reminded to secure their homes by locking all windows and doors before leaving them unattended — even for short periods of time.

The Bermuda Police Service encourages members of the public to report any suspicious activity or individual seen in or around their neighbourhood to Police on 295 0011.

Delta Airlines in fare cut

Delta is now offering budget round trip fares to Bermuda on selected periods this year.

Airfares start at $214 when travelling from Monday to Thursday. Once taxes, fees and surcharges are included, the rate is 338.45.

Travellers who prefer to travel on the weekend, Friday to Sunday, the fare is $353.45. This discounted fare is available until June 30, and tickets must be purchased by April 14.

Eva Hodgson to present lectures on Island's history

Veteran race activist, author and historian Eva Hodgson is to present seven seminars on the Island's history.

This morning, from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., Dr. Hodgson, founder of the National Association of Reconciliation and author of 'Second Class Citizens, First Class Men', will discuss key moments from Bermuda's past.

The series of seminars has been arranged by the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs and the Community Education and Development Programme (CEDP).

"This is a marvellous opportunity for the public to learn about some key chapters in Bermuda's history, as diverse as the transatlantic slave trade to our history by local authors, and we encourage the public to register for one of these enlightening seminars," Culture Minister Dale Butler said.

This morning's seminar takes place in the Community and Cultural Affairs boardroom, 81 Court Street, Hamilton.

Two homes burgled this week

Police reported cash was stolen from two homes this week.

According to officers thieves entered an unoccupied home on Serpentine Road, Pembroke between 1.20 p.m. and 3.20 p.m. on Tuesday and made off with a small quantity of cash.

The following day, culprits broke into a Rocky Lane West, Hamilton Parish home where officers say a "quantity of cash" was also stolen.

Said a spokesperson: "The complainants stated that sometime between 8 a.m. and 9.15 p.m. that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into their home while it was unoccupied."

Inquiries into both incidents are underway.
