Indian sailor taken to hospital
An officer on a chemical tanker en route from Rotterdam to Texas had to be brought ashore to Bermuda on Saturday after injuring his wrist.
The 33-year-old Indian man was onboard the 128m long Marida Mistletoe when Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre got a satellite call for assistance on Wednesday.
The vessel — registered in the Marshall Islands — was 840 nautical miles east of Bermuda at the time and the officer needed to be evacuated due to serious bleeding from his left wrist. The ship arrived offshore south east of St. David's on Saturday afternoon and the pilot boat went out to the ship at about 7 p.m. that night.
The officer was brought to Ordnance Island, St. George, at about 10 p.m. and taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. The Marida Mistletoe continued on her way to Baytown.
Marine Police tow in pleasure boat
Marine Police last night towed a boat into Hamilton after her engine and power failed in the Deep Bay area of Pembroke.
Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre got a call at 8.15 p.m. from the nameless 22ft boat, which had five people on-board, none of them local.
A duty officer said: "They were on their way from Spanish Point eastbound and got as far as Deep Bay, by Admiralty Park. They were a little unsure of where they were."
The officer asked a Police patrol car to drive to the top of a hill by Pembroke Community Centre and put its lights on full beam.
Those on the boat immediately called the centre back to say they could see the lights, allowing the officer to ascertain the position of the vessel. A call-out to other boats for assistance got no response so Marine Police went out to tow the boat back to shore just after 10 p.m.
Motorcyclists in hospital after separate crashes
A 20-year-old motorcyclist was in intensive care last night after a collision with a parked bus.
The crash happened at about 1.30 a.m. yesterday on Stowe Hill in Paget and the rider, from Southampton, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. He was in a stable condition there last night. A Police spokesman said: "Both the motorcycle and the bus were damaged. Inquiries into this incident are under way."
Witnesses to the crash should call P.c. Dinell Bean on 295-0011.
Another motorcyclist was taken to hospital after a single-vehicle crash just after 10 p.m. on Saturday on South Road in Paget, near the junction with College Rise.
Police said a 42-year-old man, from Pembroke, appeared to have lost control of his bike, colliding with a sidewalk and a pillar.
The man was in a stable condition on a general ward at KEMH last night. The motorcycle was moderately damaged.
Witnesses to that crash should call P.c. Tavoris Douglas, also on 295-0011.
Pearman's Hill home hit by burglar

The Police also again issued a warning to the public to stay vigilant and keep windows and doors locked before leaving their homes unattended, even for a short time.
The public can report any suspicious activities or people in their neighbourhood to Police on 295-0011.
