CoH announces road traffic disruptions

Commuters were likely to experience traffic delays on the way into Hamilton today and in the coming days. Spurling Hill was closed to vehicles travelling into the city to allow for crane activity at Seon Place which started at 7 a.m. today.

And Church Street opposite City Hall is to be reduced to one-lane traffic until 6.30 p.m. Saturday to accommodate the use of a crane at Washington Mall, tomorrow

Additional disruptions are expected due to a cycle race planned for Sunday between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. The route will take racers along Front Street, Burnaby Hill, Reid Street, Queen Street, Church Street and Par-la-Ville Road.

HRC office to open before noon today

The office of the Human Rights Commission in the Mechanics Building on Church Street has closed due to renovation work.

Government said last night it would give an update on when the office would reopen before noon today. The HRC can be contacted on 295-5859.

Domestic Violence Awareness month starts today

The Centre Against Abuse has organised a series of activities to mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.

Culture and Social Rehabilitation Minister Neletha Butterfield will kick off the month today at 9.30 a.m. at City Hall steps with a proclamation.

On Sunday, the Partner Re 5k Run/Walk will take place to raise funds for the charity at the Botanical Gardens. It starts at 8.30 a.m.

On October 6, there will also be a 'Lunch and Learn' at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital to encourage doctors to screen patients for domestic abuse. The following day there will be a session for nurses. Activities will continue on October 23 with the Queen of Bermuda Diva Fest, featuring American R&B singer Melba Moore and female impersonators and a gala at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Friday, October 29.
