Youths rob, beat 60-year-old man

Three robbers left a 60-year-old man with a broken jaw when he refused to give them any money — he didn't have any.

The Pembroke man, who also suffered other facial injuries in the attack, remained in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital last night one week after the attack and he was said to be in stable condition.

According to the victim around 7.15 p.m. on Monday, September 22 he was walking along Union Street in Hamilton when three unknown men approached him and demanded money.

Though he told them he did not have any, the suspects proceeded to knock the 60-year-old to the ground, punched him and kicked him in the head.

The assailants escaped empty-handed, while the Pembroke man suffered facial injuries including a broken jaw and was taken to KEMH via ambulance.

Two of the three suspects are said to be brown skinned males about 5 ft 6 in tall of medium build with his hair in plaits wearing glasses, a red shirt and jeans.

A third attacker was said to be a brown skinned male, muscular build with a close haircut wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.

The assault comes after a hold-up on Saturday afternoon in a shop on King Street, Hamilton that left the shop owner with a fracture under one eye and five stitches to the corner of his left eye.

Beris Brown, 56, the owner of J and B Complete Fashions said two men rushed into his store and demanded money.

One man then tried to restrain him while the other punched him twice in the eye. Mr. Brown grabbed a pair of scissors and started screaming to get people's attention.

The two men then fled the store towards the Middletown area.

Yesterday, Police again appealed for any witnesses to this hold-up as well as the most recent attack that left a 60-year-old with a broken jaw.

Anyone with information should contact Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.
