Car crash woman was almost three times over the drink limit
A Sandys woman who crashed her car after drinking several vodka and tonics was banned from driving for a year.
Sharon Faries, 46, was nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit when she got into an accident on April 4, Magistrates' Court heard.
Prosecutor Robert Welling said Faries was driving west on Cricket Lane in Sandys at around 9 p.m. when she drifted into the eastbound lane and collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction.
When Police officers arrived on the scene, they saw Faries leaning against her car with her hands on her face.
Asked if she had been drinking, Faries told the officers, "Yes. Vodka and tonic mixed."
She was then arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence. A breath test showed she had 235 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 80.
Yesterday, she told Magistrates' Court: "I'm sorry for the offence. I honestly didn't feel that I was as bad as I was. I am totally ashamed."
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined her $1,000, gave her 10 demerit points and banned her from driving all vehicles for one year.
