Catlin End-to-End raises $300,000+
This year's End-to-End charity event raised a record-breaking $300,000, the organisers announced yesterday.
More than 2,500 people braved cloudy skies, blustery winds and high waves to walk, cycle, row and swim the length of the Island on May 3. Some participants even took part on rollerblades and horseback.
The fundraising total is the highest achieved since the event began 21 years ago, and will benefit six charities — the WindReach Explorers Summer Camp, the Adult Education School, the Family Centre, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Greenrock and the Bermuda National Trust.
Chair of the event Anne Mello said: "This was truly the benchmark year. This event saw 2,500 incredibly dedicated participants move by land and by sea — intrepid swimmers included — across the Island.
"There were a dozen cheering and feeding stations to keep them moving, smiling marshals to shepherd them across the tricky bits, countless welcomes and entertainment at the finish line, amazing giveaways before, during and after and record pledges to distribute.
"It truly reflects the best of Bermuda — and it just does not get better than that."
This year, the event re-branded with a new title sponsor, Catlin Group Limited.
The event's traditional name sponsors, Bank of Bermuda Foundation and M3 Wireless, along with numerous other corporate sponsors, also remained in support.
