Club Med implosion to be shown on TV tonight

Fans of the Discovery Channel series The Detonators will view dramatic scenes of the implosion of Club Med tonight courtesy of LookBermuda.

A film crew from the cable channel travelled to the Island last summer to capture images for the programme, which showcases tough demolition jobs from around the world.

LookBermuda met members of The Discovery team while shooting their own scenes for a short programme on LookTV.

"The Discovery team subsequently requested that they have access to our implosion footage and some of our other stock Bermuda footage to enhance their programme, and while we are not sure which portions made into the final edit, we understand that a fair amount was used," said JP Rouja, managing director for LookBermuda.

The company filmed in high-definition including "specialised motion time-lapse sequences that captured the implosion and the surrounding environment starting at sunrise and finishing an hour after the event".

Added Mr. Rouja: "We had previously scouted the location and selected prime camera locations that would not only show the implosion but showcase Bermuda as well."

Cameras were placed in various positions to capture the event including a tree 50 feet from the back of the building and a location in St. David's which shows "the town of St. George's in the foreground with the iconic hotel disappearing behind it".

Said Mr. Rouja: "The filming was complicated by the fact that four of the cameras used were within the restricted zone. So cameras had to be placed and started in advance, trusting that our calculations for timing and exposure were accurate as we would not be on hand to make adjustments.

Once the dignitaries had arrived and the official countdown started, we were given a Police escort to go and start all the cameras and then we retreated to the Golf Club to watch the event unfold.

The show airs tonight at 9 p.m. The original LookTV implosion programme can be seen on cable channel 001 / WOW 101 and on www.LookBermuda.com
