Dame Lois Browne Evans scholarship expands

More Bermudian law students now have the opportunity to apply for a prestigious scholarship in memory of Dame Lois Browne Evans.

The Bermuda Bar Association first announced the pupillage opportunity in April, which gives the winner a chance to train at Carmelite Chambers, one of the UK's leading law firms. At the time, only Bermudian students who were enrolled in or who have completed the Bar Vocational Course for barristers could apply.

However, now students enrolled in or qualified from the Legal Practice Course for solicitors can also participate. A bursary of up to $10,000 accompanies the award. According to a statement from the Bar Association: "This is an extraordinary opportunity for any candidate who aspires to be an advocate before our courts. The candidate is required to have a current interest in criminal law and an intention to return to Bermuda."

Full details on how to apply are available from the website www.bermudabar.org, and the deadline for applications is November 30.
