Drink driver's 'poor choice' led to car crash

A 30-year-old who crashed his car while under the influence told Magistrates' Court the accident was caused by poor choice.

Pembroke resident Jevon Lowe yesterday pleaded guilty to driving while impaired by alcohol on September 25.

Crown counsel Kristy-Ann Keillor said Police received a report of a single-vehicle accident on Pitts Bay Road.

Officers found a grey Mazda had struck a wall at the junction with Turnstile Lane.

Lowe was seen leaning on the crashed vehicle.

Police noticed he smelled of alcohol and his eyes were glazed.

Asked if he had been drinking, Lowe said: "You don't want to know."

A breath sample confirmed he had 248 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood more than triple the legal limit of 80 milligrams.

Yesterday Lowe apologised to the court.

"I don't usually drive drunk. If I have more than one or two beers I walk home.

"It was a horrible and poor choice. There was no reason at all."

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Lowe $1,000 and banned him from driving all vehicles for one year.
