Earth Day event will be in Victoria Park
It's time to celebrate the planet as Bermudians mark Earth Day on April 22.
This year's event, the second to be held, takes place at Victoria Park with exhibitors ranging from the Bermuda Audubon Society to the Vegetarian Society.
Ever since the first Earth Day was held in the US in 1970 it has become known as a day for celebrating the Earth and environmentalism.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day and so Islanders will be given 40 tips on how we can live in a more environmentally-friendly way.
Organiser Alison Copeland said: "We think it is important to offer a positive, local message, and to make people aware there are many small things everyone can do that will make significant improvements to Bermuda's environment.
"It is important that Bermudians celebrate Earth Day because we rarely take the time out to celebrate the natural beauty around us and how important our environment is to all aspects of our lives."
Earth Day has been organised by the Bermuda Association of Eco-clubs (BASEC), after its successful event at Barrs Bay Park last year.
This year's exhibitors include: the Bermuda National Trust; Greenhouse Bermuda; Keep Bermuda Beautiful; Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce (BEST); Bermuda Botanical Society; Vegetarian Society of Bermuda; Waste Management Department, Ministry of Works and Engineering; Department of Conservation Services, Ministry of the Environment; A F Smith; Bermuda Bookstore; Solar Bermuda; Bermuda Audubon Society; Powersave; Norwex Enviro Products; Conscious Vibes; Ami Zanders; and Chewstick.
Food vendors and children's activities will also be available, while the Chewstick Foundation will provide entertainment.
On the musical bill are: Steel Pans from Bermuda School of Music; Chewslam poetry; Chavon Clarke; Jules and Aswad; Djata; KASE; Val Sherwood; Boshmon Deeds; Mohawk Radio and the Bermuda School of Music strings.
Earth Day 2010 is held at Victoria Park on April 22, 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Entry is free.
