Education and child care will wrap-up Parliament session

The House of Assembly will today debate the Education Amendment Act 2008 and the Child Day Care Allowance Act 2008 before closing for August.

It's thought that MPs will return for a rare September sitting to debate the Park Hyatt (St. George's) Resort Act 2008, giving legal backing to the new $294 million hotel due by Spring 2011, before officially closing the session and starting the new one with the November Throne Speech.

The Education Amendment Act will create a Commissioner of Education to lead a re-organised Ministry of Education and draft public school reform.

The proposed law will also allow the school leaving age to be raised to 18.

The Child Day Care Allowance Act will give free child care for Bermudian families in need.
