Education `trailblazer' quits position
of Education, Harrichand Sukdeo is quitting the comptroller's post.
Last night Minister of Education Milton Scott confirmed that Mr. Sukdeo, a Bermudian, was leaving the Ministry.
He will be moving to the private sector which he left in 1993 to take over the newly created position of comptroller and project manager.
Mr. Sukdeo was hired to streamline the financial operations of the Education Ministry, including upgrading the accounting system and assisting with long term financial planning.
The comptroller was to be an advisor to the Minister, the Permanent Secretary, and the Auditor General.
Mr. Sukdeo is a Certified General Accountant and Chartered Financial Analyst.
When contacted last night, Mr. Sukdeo said he was pleased with his accomplishments at the Ministry which include overseeing the CedarBridge building project and the overhaul of several middle schools.
He also turned the Ministry's finances around from a deficit of more than $3 million to Budget surpluses every year since.
He added: "I achieved the objectives that were set for me and I undertook some other responsibilities during the restructuring.'' Mr. Sukdeo would not reveal the new company he will be working for in July but said it is an executive post.
His resignation is effective from May 31.
