after being charged with assaulting his ex-wife.

Robson, 44, of Southampton, was not required to enter a plea in Magistrates' Court on the charge that he assaulted his then wife, Karen Robson, on January 16 in Paget.

Prosecutor Insp. Kenrick James said the incident occurred while Robson was returning his children to their mother's home in Paget.

The pair, who are now divorced, began arguing and Insp. James said Robson grabbed his former wife around her neck and pushed her.

Robson told the court that the pair were involved in a heated exchange about the custody of the couple's two children when he "put a restraining arm on her''.

But Mrs. Robson claimed that her ex-husband's version of the incident was not accurate and maintained that the incident was "quite a bit more serious than he thinks it is''.

However, Robson's lawyer Keren Lomas asked for section 64 of the Criminal Code to be implemented. Under the section, a magistrate has the authority of "binding over without proceeding to convict''.

He or she can also order that the defendant be of good behaviour for a specified time.

Before binding Robson over for 12 months, Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp explained to him that he could be convicted on the matter if he came before the court for a similar offence within a year.

"If this repeats itself, you'll find yourself back in front of this court and could be sentenced on this matter,'' she warned.
