Former Chief Education Officer publishes book

A well-accomplished educator recently published a book about his experience as a teacher.Dr. Joseph Christopher, former Chief Education Officer, is well known in the community for his service to public education First entering the system as a teacher, and then serving as principal at Sandys Secondary School before becoming Senior Education Officer, Special Services in 1982. This post was later changed to Senior Education Officer, Curriculum, Instruction and Evaluation.

A well-accomplished educator recently published a book about his experience as a teacher.

Dr. Joseph Christopher, former Chief Education Officer, is well known in the community for his service to public education First entering the system as a teacher, and then serving as principal at Sandys Secondary School before becoming Senior Education Officer, Special Services in 1982. This post was later changed to Senior Education Officer, Curriculum, Instruction and Evaluation.

During this period, he oversaw the implementation of a number of programmes designed to improve the deliver of services to students.

Dr. Christopher became Chief Education Officer in January 1996, and officially retired from the post in 2007.

'A Random Walk through the Forest' is Dr. Christopher's treatise on public education in Bermuda.

He hopes that it will serve as a discussion point about public education and that will encourage more members of the community to be come active players in the discussion.

A banquet honouring Dr. Christopher will be held on Saturday April 11 at the Fairmont Southampton. Tickets at a cost of $125 are available from the Student Services section of the Department of Education on Dundonald Street, Hamilton.
