1989 election, last night said he would not run in the July 14 by-election to find a successor to the Hon. John Stubbs.

Mr. Skinner ran under the banner of Concerned Bermudians in the Premier's constituency in 1989. He said he had decided not to run in Paget East for personal reasons.

"I've given this a great deal of thought and decided that I'm not going to stand,'' he told The Royal Gazette . "I don't want to muddy the waters.'' So far, only Mr. Gershwyn Smith, the 44-year-old `High Priest' who ran in Hamilton East last October, has said he will definitely run as an Independent.

Mr. Sanders Frith-Brown and the National Liberal Party have expressed interest but have not yet made final decisions.

Last night Mr. Frederick Wade said the Progressive Labour Party would announce its Paget East candidate this week.

The by-election has been overshadowed by the Primary battle shaping up within the United Bermuda Party.

The Hon. Grant Gibbons and Dr. Ed Harris will square off on June 30, a date which many within the party say was set to shut out competition for a seat considered one of the safest for the UBP.
