Four appear in court on gun charges
Police shooting suspect Omari Gordon was charged yesterday, days after being apprehended following 13 months on the run.
Three other defendants facing separate gun allegations also appeared at Magistrates' Court, prompting armed Police to be stationed outside and tight security inside.
Gordon, 27, allegedly shot at three Police officers in Middletown, Pembroke, on November 29, 2008. He is accused of escaping, which prompted a Police hunt, culminating in his arrest at a house in Sandys last Thursday.
Gordon was surrounded by around 15 Police officers during his brief appearance before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner. He sported bushy hair and a full beard.
Gordon, of Pembroke, was charged with discharging several shots from a firearm and making use of a firearm with intent to resist arrest. He did not have to enter a plea as the matters must be dealt with by the Supreme Court.
Mr. Warner remanded him into custody pending an administrative hearing on January 25.
The same tight security surrounded Kenith Bulford, 35, and Ashley Wellman, 30, both of Sandys, who are charged with an alleged kidnap at gunpoint on January 2.
They are alleged to have wounded Dwayne Reid-Anderson with intent to cause grievous bodily harm while holding him against his will at Bulford's home in Beacon Hill, Sandys.
The attack is said by prosecutors to have been carried out with another person not before the court. Mr. Reid-Anderson suffered an injury to his forehead that required stitches.
The pair are further charged with conspiring with others to use a firearm to commit the kidnap.
They did not have to enter pleas as the matter will be dealt with by the Supreme Court. Mr. Warner remanded them into custody and they will also come back to court on January 25.
Also appearing yesterday was Tiffany Eatherley, 24, who was charged during a previous court hearing on December 21 with possessing a firearm and a single 9 mm round between January 13 and December 16 last year.
The mother-of-two was remanded into custody when she first appeared in court, but has since been granted bail by a judge. She's not been required to enter a plea and is due back in court on January 22.
