Foursome get a Cabinet jumpstart

Premier Brown with intern Kara Smith

Four Bermudian College graduates have earned positions in the Cabinet Office as part of Government's Career Jumpstart programme, announced earlier this year.

The four students, Jai Michael, Kara Smith, Shelton Williams, and Chris Wiorboys, were awarded one-year contracts as a way of providing them with valuable work experience.

Ms. Smith, who graduated from the University of Westminster with a degree in public relations before earning the internship, called the experience "a great opportunity."

"So far I've been pleasantly surprised," said Ms. Smith. "I didn't know what to expect. They've been very welcoming."

While the interns are still going through their orientation, they are already meeting and speaking with numerous Senators and Members of Parliament.

Speaking briefly to the interns yesterday, Premier Ewart Brown praised the new employees and the programme.

"We are determined that Government should not be a last resort," said Dr. Brown.
