Francis Patton PTA calls an 'urgent' meeting on new principal
The Francis Patton Primary PTA is holding an "urgent" meeting on Gina Tucker's appointment as the school's principal.
Education Minister El James is expected to attend.
The Parent Teacher Association placed an appeal for parents to attend in today's edition of The Royal Gazette.
It reads: "Urgent! Urgent! Urgent! Francis Patton Primary School's PTA meeting on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 6.30 p.m. sharp regarding the M.O.E.D. [Ministry of Education] decision to appoint Dr. Gina Tucker as principal at Francis Patton Primary School the upcoming school year.
The Minister of Education will be on hand to address any concerns and answer any questions. Please make every effort to attend."
It was announced this month that Dr. Tucker would take over as principal at the Hamilton Parish school. She will replace Gloria Martin who is to move to Dalton E. Tucker Primary School in September.
She was dismissed from Victor Scott Primary last June amid controversy.
School counsellor Anthony Peets filed a grievance against Dr. Tucker last year. A subsequent arbitration hearing recommended that she be removed from the school.
That recommendation was backed by Education Commissioner Wendy McDonell despite a bid by the Association of School Principals that Dr. Tucker be allowed to stay.
She has since been working within the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry of Education has said plans to place Dr. Tucker at Francis Patton are part of a shuffle of four primary school principals "to facilitate and promote site renewal and professional growth, offering a wealth of experience and knowledge to their new settings".
