Govt. advertises for Hospitality Institute CEO
The newly named Bermuda Hospitality Institute hopes to develop, grow and maintain a supply of qualified Bermudians to work in the industry.
Government has advertised for a Chief Executive Officer for Government's Bermuda Hospitality Institute (BHI), formerly known as the Hospitality Learning Centre. On Monday Premier Ewart Brown announced the name change but maintained that the Institute, which is a public/private initiative, would still focus on training and educating Bermudians about the second biggest industry in Bermuda.
Dr. Brown said the main goal was to "encourage young Bermudians to pursue hospitality as a career while simultaneously encouraging the current workforce of the merits of rejoining the industry or considering the hospitality field as a second career choice".
The advert states the BHI's role will be to:
• Establish a viable, sustainable, business/Government partnership
• Create and sustain an ongoing dialogue between the BHI and potential recruits
• Market and promote the benefits and incentives of the industry
• Develop, grow and maintain a supply of qualified Bermudians to work in the industry.
The salary for the position was not advertised though it was described as 'competitive'.
The CEO will be required to report to a board of directors and be responsible for the direction of the BHI.
The individual will also ensure Bermudians have access to educational and workforce development opportunities, through courses and certification programmes, as well as internships and degree opportunities which will ensure they can pursue careers within the industry.
The successful candidate must have ten years of experience with at least five years at an executive level as well as a degree in a relative field, professional designation or MBA. Prior experience in hospitality, marketing or public relations is not required but considered an asset.
