Gunmen strike, but don't shoot

Police presence: An armed officer checks around a property in Hamilton Parish after reports of men with guns accosting another man outside his home.

Three men with guns accosted a Hamilton Parish man outside his home yesterday, sparking a Police manhunt.

While guns were brandished, there were no reported injuries, and no shots fired.

A K9 unit and both an ambulance and a fire truck joined armed Police officers outside the North Shore Road home shortly after the 11 a.m. incident.

A Police spokesman said that there were no shots fired and no one injured.

Police raced to the area following the initial reports, with officers seen watching over traffic both in the Bailey's Bay area and near Flatts Bridge.

More officers searched the area in Police vehicles and unmarked cars.

Spot checks were carried out in the Abbot's Cliff area as Police searched for the suspects.

While Police investigated, neighbours looked on, trying to piece together what happened.

Most said they believed the incident was a robbery, but Police yesterday could not confirm that was the case.

A Police spokesman said: "It appears that a 21-year-old Hamilton Parish man was accosted outside his residence by three unknown men brandishing what were believed to be firearms.

"The Hamilton Parish man managed to escape apparently uninjured and there was no evidence of a firearm being discharged.

"The surrounding area was thoroughly searched by Police for the assailants.

"An active investigation into this incident is underway."

Police describe the suspects as three men dressed in all black clothing between 5'8" tall and 6' tall.

The spokesman added that they are asking anyone with information, including anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area at around 11 a.m., to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hot line on 800-8477.
