Hospitality industry will feature in career fair
University and high school students will have the opportunity to learn about careers in tourism next month.
The Bermuda Hospitality Institute (BHI) will hold its first Career Fair and Expo, which will feature a series of presentations, panel discussions and interactive workshops to attract young Bermudians to the second pillar of the Island’s economy.
The fair will feature discussions geared towards different age groups. The first 200 high school students who pre-register will be able to attend a panel discussion ‘What is Service?’
The discussion will feature young Bermudians currently working in the industry and will include a career assessment session, followed by private behind-the-scenes tours of BHI.
The first 200 college students to pre-register will be able to attend ‘Young & Ambitious’, a panel discussion showcasing young Bermudians making a name for themselves in the industry.
There will also be an interactive session, ‘Pursuing your Passion’, that connects their area of study with career opportunities, and a presentation on aligning education, experience and salary expectations.
Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided along with prizes.
Karla Lacey, who runs the BHI, said: “These presentations, along with others geared towards different age groups and stages of life, are designed to highlight the advantages of the hospitality industry and the many rewards to be gained from a career in this sector.
“Young people in particular aren’t aware of the wonderful opportunities hospitality can provide.”
Students must sign up in advance at www.bhi.bm. The conference will take place at the Fairmont Hamilton starting at 9am and finishing at 2pm on December 18.
