House manager wanted for Premier's home

Cabinet is on the lookout for a top notch cook to take over at Premier Ewart Brown's luxury private home.

The $60,000-plus house manager post carries a host of duties to ensure housekeeping requirements are maintained to the highest standard at Dr. Brown's Gombey House.

According to an advert in the Bermuda Sun, the successful applicant must be a very good cook, willing to clean, comfortable with formal entertaining and possess very good administrative and valet skills.

Other necessary attributes include experience in purchasing and bookkeeping, resourcing multiple suppliers and management of pantries, closets and storage areas, and a BSC or equivalent or five years' experience in a similar position.

The advert says the job — which pays $35 an hour, for a minimum 37-and-a-half hours a week — is for the day to day management of the household and the delivery of services necessary to maintain the property in Smith's.

Civil Service Head Kenneth Dill, who will supervise the successful applicant, said the post was established in 1999 and Gombey House's former house manager resigned to start a family. Cabinet advertised for a house manager shortly after Dr. Brown replaced Alex Scott as Premier in 2006.
