Island's report card is coming UK MPs' assessment on Bermuda is to be released within days

A report into the state of UK governance and accountability in Bermuda will become available to the public this weekend.

The UK Foreign Affairs Committee is to publish its report on the British Overseas Territories from 00.01hrs GMT, Sunday (20.01hrs Bermuda, Saturday).

The Committee's Seventh Report of Session 2007-08 (HC 147) can be viewed on the Internet, while hard copies can be purchased from the Parliamentary Bookshop in London.

British MPs Andrew MacKinlay, John Horam and Malcolm Moss visited the Island in March as part of an audit of Britain's 14 Overseas Territories.

The inquiry — the first of its kind for ten years, scrutinised how the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is carrying out its responsibilities.

It has also examined standards of governance, the role of Governors, transparency and accountability, regulation of the financial sector, human rights and the relationship between the Territories and UK Parliament.

Witnesses who met with MPs can obtain an advanced embargoed copy of the report in electronic (PDF) form from 11 a.m. (7 a.m. Bermuda) on Friday.

Those wishing to do so should email their request to: foraffcom@parliament.uk or telephoning 020 7219 6106.

To order a printed copy, contact: the Parliamentary Bookshop, 12 Bridge Street, Westminster, London, SW1A 2JX. Telephone: 020 7219 3890, or contact the Stationery Office at 0845 7023 474 from Monday.
