KBB hosts its first 'Walk and Work' 10K

Keep Bermuda Beautiful is offering Islanders the chance to detox both themselves and the environment on a leisurely 10-kilometre stroll.

More than 100 people have signed up so far for KBB's first 'Walk and Work' this Saturday.

Scheduled as part of the Catlin End-to-End's 100 Day Programme, walkers can both exercise for the May event and clean up trash at the same time.

The walk starts in King's Square, St. George's, at 2 p.m. and heads out to Ferry Reach Point along the coastal Railway Trail before looping back via a different route.

Walkers collect trash bags at three points along the walk and are asked to pick up any litter they find. There will also be water and snack stops.

Anyone wishing to only complete half the route will be able to get a lift back from Ferry Reach roundabout in an available waiting car.

A KBB spokeswoman said: "The walk is part of the 100 Day Challenge and is also a chance to help keep Bermuda beautiful by picking up litter along the way. We are hoping for good weather but the walk will take place come rain or shine. This is our first 'Walk and Work' event so we are hoping it will be a big success.

"We have approximately a hundred people registered so far so we are expecting a big turnout, particularly from environmentally-minded people and those training for the End-to-End."

For a $20 registration fee, walkers receive a T-shirt, water bottle and goodie bag. Students can use the walk as credit towards their community service while employees can count it towards volunteer hours.

Sign up at 1.30 p.m. in King's Square. Alternatively register online at: www.kbb.bm.
