Garbage-busters will be out in force this weekend for the '100 Sites Clean-Up'.

The blitz on trash takes place today, Saturday and Sunday, with teams ranging from families of four to six people to larger groups headed by a team leader.

Throughout the weekend, KBB staff will be on hand to respond to requests for assistance from the charity's headquarters in Hamilton.

Two volunteers will also 'float' on scooters, delivering bags and other equipment to various sites.

And in scenes akin to a military operation, Works and Engineering trucks will be on stand-by, ready to transport the collected garbage to Tynes Bay and other appropriate locations.

KBB executive director Richie Lathan says: "If people come across a site they feel they can't handle, please give us a call and we'll send out more volunteers."

Those taking part in the clean-up are advised to use tongs, gloves — such as latex, and to wash their hands immediately afterwards with a powerful handwash.

Disinfectant and hand sanitisers are also recommended.

Anyone who wants to take part in the 'Spring clean' of the Island should contact KBB at 295- 5142 or email: kbb[AT] northrock.bm.

The organisation also wants to hear from you if you know of a trash site which is not yet on the list below.

The minimum requirements for a site clean-up are: two volunteers; more than an hour on-site; separation of recyclables; and to notify KBB of the number of blue bags and general bags of trash collected. The office also needs to be informed of the pick-up location.
