Law firm staff give $9,000 Christmas donation to three Island charities
Three charities have received some Christmas cheer thanks to the staff of a Bermuda law firm.
Staff at Conyers Dill & Pearman donated $9,000 to the Salvation Army, Girlguiding Bermuda and the Bermuda Institute.
The firm matches every dollar donated by its staff at Christmas as part of their Conyers' staff benevolent scheme.
The Salvation Army will use its donation to provide food hampers and basic necessities for needy families.
"With Conyers' support, families in need will receive a grocery voucher and a gift hamper, which includes toys for each child in the family, as well as a bag of groceries so that each family has a chance to celebrate the Christmas tradition and cook a Christmas dinner," Major Douglas Lewis, Divisional Commander for the Salvation Army, said.
Meanwhile Girlguiding Bermuda plans to use its donation to represent the Island in England and Mexico in July 2010, at the 100th Anniversary of Girlguiding.
Alex Crampton, head of 1st Hamilton Guides, said: "Girlguiding Bermuda continues to go from strength to strength in developing Bermuda's girls into productive young women and positive contributors to society. We are delighted that Conyers is supporting girlguiding in Bermuda."
And the Bermuda Institute will use the cash on a trip to Guyana to help those less fortunate.
Three students from the school and two adults are giving up their Christmas to build homes in Guyana and encourage sustainable living
Jennifer Williams, Chairman of Conyers' Benevolent Fund, said: "We continue to work with organisations across Bermuda whose tireless efforts are vital in supporting the needs of the local community. We are delighted to see continued contributions from our partners and staff in support of these worthy causes."
