A group of Bermudians hit the tents at Bryant Park for Fashion Week in New York City, representing Bermuda to the fullest.

Donned in a different pair of Bermuda Shorts each day, the fashion ambassadors garnered attention from celebrities, designers and even New York City cops.

Christine Rawlins, Jamela Daniels, Amir X, Alex Dill and Randy Spence all braved the cold in the Big Apple last week to promote Bermuda as a travel destination and to film as much of fashion week as possible.

The group got access to fashion shows, interviewed celebrities and caused quite a stir in their brightly coloured shorts.

Christine and Randy represent www.psbermuda.com, Amir owns Executive Media Services, Jamela is a freelancer, Alex owns New Atlantic House.

Amir was given access to many international fashion weeks and put a team together to film New York's for a documentary to show to Bermudians.

Christine said: "We said it would be a good idea to represent the Country. We thought we should look the part. A number of persons took photos of us. That was a first for me.

"PS Bermuda looks forward to going to various international events for us to bring back footage to represent our country. I'll just say it was an exciting experience and I look forward to bringing more international content to Bermuda."

Amir explained his involvement.

"My purpose was to get Bermudians out of Bermuda this year. With each one of my trips, I am going to bring a new person to expose them to the international entertainment industry. Once a month I leave and I cover an international event and I come back to Bermuda. We needed to brand it and let the world know that Bermuda does exist. It has people on it."

Some of those interviewed included Veronica Webb, Russell Simmons, Nicole Murphy, Isaac Mizrahi, Kelly Rowland and Donald Trump.

Amir said: "People said [our shorts were] cute. It was different. During our interviews, what we did was ask them questions about their experiences in Bermuda or if they would like to experience what Bermuda is. We did a hard-core advertising campaign.

"Because we all had on the shorts, it caused people to ask questions from the NYC cops to the vendors. It was really, really powerful."

Jamela said: "I have done some fashion weeks in Miami. I have never experienced the calibre I did in New York. It was amazing. The experience was awesome."

Asked what was the best part of the week, Christine said she was able to sit in the front row at the Isaac Mizrahi show directly across from famed entrepreneur Russell Simmons.

"I felt a sense of satisfaction. It felt really really good. I felt this is really happening," she said.

Jamela said her most memorable moment was waiting in the cold for singer Kelly Rowland outside of the Marchesa show.

"Amir followed her with the camera and said 'Kelly I love you'. We waited for her an hour."

Amir added: "It was freezing cold. Bless her for knowing the position and the necessity for getting her on the camera. She was very appreciative for us staying in the cold. That is the biggest thing that stood out in my mind."

The footage will air on www.psbermuda.com on Monday.

The group's sponsors included the Department of Tourism, the Department of Culture and Social Rehabilitation, and Gibbons Company.
