Man charged in rape case
to face rape and theft charges in the Supreme Court.
The man -- who cannot be named for legal reasons -- had nothing to say and only shook his head yesterday when Senior Magistrate Will Francis asked why he should not be remanded.
He will return to Magistrates' Court on April 13 for mention while a Police file is being prepared.
He was arrested after a manhunt was launched early on Saturday when the victim, a Sandys Parish acquaintance, was allegedly raped after a man flagged her down for a ride.
The man, who did not have a lawyer, did not have to plead to the indictable charge of committing a serious sexual assault and stealing a pair of gold earrings worth more than $60.
Crown counsel Leighton Rochester said the Attorney General's Chambers and Police strongly objected to bail.
