Man gets $800 for cannabis 'bad decision'

A 'bad decision' caused a man to be fined $800 after he pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis.

Magistrates' court heard from Crown Counsel Takiyah Burgess that on December 31 Police were on mobile patrol in Crow Lane in Pembroke when they stopped 24-year-old Joshua Butterfield for a routine check.

After identifying himself, Butterfield was subsequently arrested on another matter.

While being searched, Police asked Butterfield if he had any illegal substance on him to which he replied: "I'm got marijuana in my left back pocket."

The item was removed from his possession and Butterfield was then arrested and taken to Police station. The item was later analysed and found to be 1.45 grams of marijuana.

The 24-year-old told senior magistrate Archibald Warner that he is sorry and that he is not a bad person or a troublemaker but that he just made a bad choice or decision. He was fined $800 for his offence.
