Swain Lightbourne, 32, of Upland Street, Warwick, pleaded guilty to destroying a counter top at the Lines Brothers Food and Liquor Mart on Ord Road in Warwick. Two other charges -- of grievous bodily harm and unlawful entry -- involve Sharon Davis, who was allegedly grabbed round the neck after she went into Lines Brothers.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor told Senior Magistrate Will Francis that around 5.30 p.m. on February 3, Davis went into Lines and asked to make an emergency phone call.

A short time later, Lightbourne entered the store and allegedly grabbed Ms Davis about the neck and tried to drag her out of the store.

The cashier on duty watched the couple, who are well known to staff, in the short struggle during which items on the counter were knocked to the floor.

It was later discovered that a large piece of formica from the counter top had been broken off in the struggle.

Sgt. Taylor said the cost of replacing the formica was assessed at $680 and labour costs to be in the region of $500.

The court also heard Davis and Lightbourne were found inside the boarded up home of James Macallan on Banana Lane in Warwick on December 19.

Police were called by the man who was watching the house for Macallan as it was being prepared for renovation. He discovered someone had removed the boards on the front door.

Sgt. Taylor said Police found the partially clothed pair in the house.

Lightbourne also pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Davis in early January.

Sgt. Taylor asked Mr. Francis to remand Lightbourne into custody.

Mr. Francis remanded Lightbourne in custody until April 3 for trial for grievous bodily harm and sentencing for wilful damage and unlawful entry.
