A new permanent secretary has been appointed to the Ministry of Education — the first permanent holder of the job since Rosemary Tyrrell's departure in May 2007.

Kevin Monkman will take up the position on November 17 — reuniting him with new Education Minister El James, whom he worked for at the Ministry of Environment and Sports.

Ellen-Kate Horton, who currently serves as an assistant Cabinet secretary, has been appointed the new permanent secretary at the Ministry of Environment and Sports. Acting education permanent secretary Radell Tankard will revert to his former post of education officer.
