More charges laid against Premier's son
The son of Premier Ewart Brown has been arrested for a second time and held on $4 million bail after six more patients — one of them as young as 15 — accused him of sexual molestation.
Dr. Kevin Antario Brown, 37, was arrested yesterday morning at his Los Angeles home, by LAPD Detectives on a felony warrant charging him with molesting six additional patients.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's website, they are also linking him to the Premier stating that: "(Deputy District Attorney Ann Marie) Wise said prosecutors asked for a bail deviation because they believe Brown, whose father is Premier of Bermuda, is a flight risk."
Dr. Brown, a general practitioner, was initially arrested on July 8 and freed on $50,000 bail in connection with charges that he sexually battered an 18-year-old woman in June, 2007 and an undercover officer posing as a patient last month.
Last night Premier Brown did not respond to requests for comment, however, after his son's first arrest the Premier, through his press secretary Glenn Jones, said: "I have been in touch with him and he denies the charges and we trust that he will be exonerated."
However, since his release on bail, according to Ms Wise of the Sex Crimes Division, more alleged victims have come forward and the newest 19 felony counts against Brown include lewd act on a 15-year-old child, rape, sexual battery by fraud and sexual exploitation. The alleged crimes occurred between November 6, 2006, and this May 31, according to the DA's Office.
Dr. Brown, who has been practicing medicine at the Crenshaw Expo Medical Center, will be arraigned tomorrow for the newest charges at the Foltz Criminal Justice Centre in downtown Los Angeles. Ms Wise said the two cases will be consolidated at a later date and if convicted, Dr. Brown faces up to 25 years in state prison.
Brown, who is the eldest of the Premier's four sons, made headlines recently in relation to the Department of Tourism's sponsorship of a celebrity poker tournament at the Los Angeles Playboy Mansion in May.
His charity, the Urban Health Institute of Los Angeles, was the beneficiary of the event.
Premier Brown attended the event, which was presided over by Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, and donated prizes of three trips to Bermuda in partnership with Elbow Beach Hotel.
Brown is married and has two young children. He's the child of a previous relationship of Dr. Brown's and was born, raised and schooled in the U.S.
Prior to these charges and according to the Medical Board of California website, Brown who graduated from the Howard School of medicine in 1997, had a clean record.
