Mussenden, Thaao Dill to head CedarBridge board

A prominent lawyer and a popular radio personality have been selected to head the CedarBridge Academy Board of Governors.

Lawyer Larry Mussenden will serve as Chairman of the Board, while former Senator and HOTT 107.5 host Thaao Dill will serve as Deputy Chairman. Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith said she was "pleased" with the additions to the CedarBridge Board following the Throne Speech last Friday. She announced the new members – which include six top professionals in law, business and finance – through a press statement yesterday.

The news comes weeks after former Chairman George Scott and Deputy Chair Lovitta Foggo were terminated from their positions and the remaining executive members resigned in protest.

Gregory Swan, Carla Lambert, Roger Butterfield, Jane Correia, Fanon Khaldun and Andrew Griffith also joined the board.

Mr. Swan is the Chief Operating Officer of Telebermuda International Ltd., Ms Lambert is an Associate in the Corporate Department of Trott & Duncan and Mr. Butterfield is the Vice President at Butterfield Bank.

Meanwhile Ms Correia is the managing member of Correia Construction Company Ltd.; Mr. Khaldun is the product manager at Digicel Bermuda and Mr. Griffith is a chartered accountant and the Chief Financial Officer for Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd. Dame Jennifer said: "The combination of youth and experience which the CedarBridge Board as a whole represents is further enhanced by the addition of six individuals who span a cross section of the community."

She said they had one thing in common "the will to ensure that Bermuda's students receive the critical attention and support they need and deserve".

"Each one of the current board members have a deep passion for education and young people; additionally, each brings their own unique strengths and ideas to the table. "All have told me that they are eagerly looking forward to rolling up their sleeves and doing the work that needs to be done on behalf of CedarBridge students. Indeed, there is much work to be done in our public education system, and their spirit of teamwork will be reflected throughout the system," the Minister said.
