The Board of Education has appointed a new Chief Operating Officer.

Lisa Marshall took over the role last week from former COO Wanda Woods-Smith, who left in April. Her role has three main functions — to assist the board and its subcommittees, to help with an accountability model that will be implemented this year and to help with board communications.

Board Chairman Darren Johnston said: "Mrs. Marshall has extensive experience in our system and will be a great addition to the team. Along with our stakeholders, we are continuing to improve the Bermuda public school system and Mrs. Marshall will have a positive impact on that effort."

Mr. Johnston said there has always been a COO of the board since it has been in operation.

Mrs. Marshall served as a mentor teacher from 2008 until her new post. Her responsibilities included facilitating the development of a collaborative and reflective relationship between the novice teacher and the master teacher.
