New York to Bermuda boat record attempt is delayed

An attempt to break the New York to Bermuda powerboat record has already met a setback — the weather.

Big Dog, captained by Chuck Arnold, was scheduled to start its journey yesterday, but bad weather has forced them to put back their attempt until July 29.

"Our team was primed to go," said Mr. Arnold. "However, a persistent storm system churning off the US mainland in the North Atlantic has forced us to err on the side of caution and delay the run for two weeks."

Mr. Arnold said that the three-man crew hopes to make the 774-mile trip in only 18 to 19 hours. The standing record for the trip is 22 hours and 23 minutes.

The entire trip will be tracked online at www.bermudachallenge.com/map.html, with updates every ten minutes.
