Party people make a scary switch
The annual Fright Night Party has had to find a new home after the Corporation of Hamilton refused permission to use Fort Hamilton.
And while the change of location will end the Haunted Tour of past years, organisers promise to replace it with a haunted playground.
Jon Legere of Volcanic Productions told The Royal Gazette he was "a little bit gutted" by the cancellation, which Corporation officials attributed to damage from Hurricane Igor.
"Everything seemed to be business as usual until about September, and then we were told we were denied permission," he said. "I was a little bit gutted. We've been building around this site for so long, now we have to sit down and think how we're going to work this new site."
Mr. Legere said that while the event will live on at the Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation (KAF), the Haunted Tour through the Fort grounds will have to be abandoned this year.
Instead, Volcanic Productions will host a Haunted Children's Playground. "This year, we'll be putting on a Halloween Fair, complete with all sorts of games and attractions," Mr Legere said.
In past years, the Haunted Tour was a popular children's attraction during the day, with the site being made scarier after dark for adults.
While Mr. Legere expressed disappointment about the change in location, he said he was enjoying working with KAF.
"The great thing about the KAF is that because they're artists, they really support us.
"One thing we like to do is take old junk and try to make sculptures out of it that do things like breath fire."
This year, the event will also be treated to the music of international recording artist Langhorne Slim, DJ The Butcha, DJ JenNYork, Uzimon and Chewstick. "The show must go on," Mr. Legere said. "And we're going to try to make this the best Fright Night yet."
