That was the call yesterday from the National Liberal Party.

It accused Sir John of bidding for "power and glory'' by pushing through the Independence referendum.

And it claimed the United Bermuda Party had failed to recognise its responsibilities to Bermudians.

NLP chairman Mr. Geoff Parker called on the UBP to "replace its leadership'' with competent people and seek a new mandate.

"The community has had enough of this continuing Government by crisis,'' he said.

"Sir John Swan must go ... today ... or we will all suffer the consequence.'' Mr. Parker said Sir John had demonstrated arrogance and desperation by trying to force through an Independence vote.

And he added the NLP was deeply concerned about the way Government continually failed to focus on critical issues, such as drugs and law and order.

"The community wants strong law and order. It didn't create an undermanned Police force.

"John Swan and his Cabinet did! A community is only as good as its leaders.

"When leadership fails, so does the community. The UBP Government has fumbled the ball under the Swan Cabinet in just about every portfolio.'' He added: "The vehicle out of the abyss is quality and common sense leadership ... not the Independence issue or any other issue.''
