Rider, 16, is badly hurt in road collision

A 16-year-old was in intensive care last night after a three-vehicle collision on South Road.Another two teenagers were also sent to hospital following the crash.According to a Police spokesman, the teenager was travelling east on an auxiliary cycle near the junction of Camp Road before 10.20 p.m. on Saturday.

According to a Police spokesman, the teenager was travelling east on an auxiliary cycle near the junction of Camp Road before 10.20 p.m. on Saturday.

The spokesman said: "It appears that a taxi was travelling west and the auxiliary cycle was travelling in the opposite direction, followed by a motorcycle when the vehicles collided."

The 16-year-old was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for injuries to his head and right hand. As of press time, he is considered in stable condition in the intensive care ward.

The rider of the motorcycle, an 18-year-old Hamilton Parish man, injured his right shoulder while his passenger, an 18-year-old Southampton man, suffered abrasions to his arms and legs.

The taxi driver, a 45-year-old Sandys man, and his passenger, a 42-year-old Southampton man, were not injured.

While the motorcycle and taxi both received some front-end damage, the auxiliary cycle ridden by the 16-year-old was extensively damaged in the collision.

Police diverted traffic from the area for around three hours following the collision.

A separate three-vehicle accident on Saturday also resulted in injuries.

A taxi, an SUV and a motorcycle collided on North Shore, Smith's, outside Terceira's gas station before 8.15 a.m.

The police spokesman said: "It appears that the taxi and the SUV were travelling east on North Shore Road and the motorcycle was travelling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided."

The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old Pembroke man was taken to KEMH suffering injuries including lacerations to his left hand. His passenger declined medical attention.

The taxi driver, a 40-year-old Hamilton Parish man, and the driver of the SUV, a 77-year-old Devonshire man, were not injured.
