Second impaired driving charge earns man three-year road ban
A man was banned from driving for three years after being caught drink-driving for the second time in two years.
Michael Powell was arrested after Police noticed his car swerving across Middle Road, Southampton, at 7.15 p.m. on February 2.
Powell, 45, of Southampton, pleaded guilty to impaired driving when he appeared at Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Trainee Crown counsel Jennifer Stervinou said: "Uniformed Police noticed the defendant was swerving from left to right across the westbound lane."
After stopping in Industrial Park Road, officers approached the defendant to speak to him. "When spoken to, the officers observed he smelt strongly of alcohol and his eyes were glazed," said Miss Stervinou.
Powell did not reply when he was cautioned and arrested. The court heard he had a previous conviction for impaired driving on April 15, 2008.
Senior magistrate Archibald Warner banned him from driving for three years and fined him $1,500.
