A second vigil will tonight take place for fractured skull victim Gabriel Wilkinson.

Mr. Wilkinson, 26, was yesterday afternoon still critically ill at Lahey Clinic near Boston, following an horrific accidental clash during a match last Sunday.

Tonight, Somerset Bridge Recreation Club and Mount Zion Male Voice Choir will put on a prayers concert and vigil at White Hill Field, the pitch where Mr. Wilkinson sustained serious head injuries.

His family has said that swelling to the Berkeley Institute PE teacher's brain has gone down and that he is now able to breathe on his own.

Choir president Tony Roberts said yesterday: "Because we are in the neighbourhood of White Hill, and he lives in that community, we thought we had an obligation to do something.

"The White Hill community is and used to be a very close-knit community. Anything affecting one family affects the whole community. He plays for the club (Somerset Eagles) and that is an integral part of the community."

The choir was planning a concert at White Hill anyway, but has now decided to combine it with a prayers session for Mr. Wilkinson. It starts at 7.30 p.m. About 200 people gathered at Berkeley for a similar event on Wednesday evening.
