Somerset post office robbed

A Police spokesperson said that a man went into the post office and demanded money from a female employee.She ran out of the building whereupon the man jumped over the counter and took two cash registers.

A Police spokesperson said that a man went into the post office and demanded money from a female employee.

She ran out of the building whereupon the man jumped over the counter and took two cash registers.

It is not known whether the man had an accomplice nor how much money, if any, was stolen during the incident but the Police are questioning one man.

Police are appealing for the person who reported the robbery from a nearby gas station to come forward.

Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to contact Insp.

HOLIDAY GARBAGE COLLECTION TSH Holiday garbage collection The standard garbage collection days for the Island have been changed for this week due to the Cup Match holiday.

Areas in the western end of the Island including Sandys, Southampton, Warwick, Paget and Tee Street and Kent Avenue in Devonshire will have garbage and recyclables collected today.

Meanwhile the rest of the Island will have garbage and recyclables collected on July 31.

All garbage and recyclables must be placed out for collection by 7.30 a.m. on the morning of collection.

And the Tynes Bay Public Drop-off will be open as usual from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

ATTEMPT TO BREAK RECORD SLG Attempt to break record An attempt to break the record for a speedboat crossing from New York to Bermuda will take place this week.

Tom Fox and Bobby Sheriff both of North Carolina will pilot a catamaran in their attempt to break the record of 29 hours 30 minutes set 10 days ago by another catamaran.

John Trimingham said the men are expected to depart from near the World Trade Centre this morning and were due in Bermuda Thursday morning.

A finish line will be set up in St. George's across Town Cut.

NEW SERGEANTS TO BE NAMED APP POL New sergeants to be named The names of seven Police officers who have been promoted from the rank of constable to sergeant will be made public today.

Police Commissioner Jean-Jacques Lemay will introduce the new sergeants during a Police promotion ceremony at 4 p.m. at the Police Recreation Club.
