Stores will be open during Queen's Birthday Parade

Despite the Queen's Birthday parade shutting down Front Street on Saturday morning, Bermuda's retailers are reminding shoppers that stores will be open as usual the day before Father's Day.

While this year's parade is being held on Saturday, the holiday itself is celebrated on Monday, a fact which has confused consumers, according to Bermuda Chamber of Commerce Vice-President Diane Gordon, who said the organisation had received more than 150 calls.

Mrs. Gordon is still worried what the impact of a temporary Front Street closure will be for Hamilton retailers.

"If you can't park on Front Street, there will be frustration," said Mrs. Gordon. "I know what it's like to be sitting in the car and find out you're being detoured."

The area of Front Street between Court Street and Burnaby Street will be closed to all traffic Saturday between 9 a.m. and noon along with the Burnaby Street area stretching from Front Street to Reid Street, and parking in the area is not allowed between 6 a.m. and noon. In addition, parking at No. 1 Shed along with No. 5 and No. 7 car parks will not be allowed between 9 a.m. and noon.
