Credit rating agency Fitch yesterday gave the thumbs-up to Bermuda's creditworthiness — much to the delight of Finance Minister Paula Cox.

Fitch affirmed Bermuda's issuer default rating at AA+ and its country ceiling rating at AAA.

A strong international business sector, a high per-capita income, low public debt burden, a mature political system and good management of the economy supported Bermuda's ratings, Fitch said.

"Government is immensely pleased with this objective endorsement and will continue to manage the economy with prudent and sound policy measures," Ms Cox said yesterday.
