Students become top cop for the day

Seven school children had lunch with Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva and his senior officers in the Officer's Mess last week. All received certificates for their outstanding entries and were special guests at the Beat the Retreat on Wednesday in St. George's. Seven students got to play Police Commissioner for the day after winning a creative artwork and short essay contest.

The youngsters were invited to Police headquarters in Prospect on Wednesday to meet Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva and his team of senior officers and take a tour of various departments, before "heading out on patrol".

They were chosen from about 100 primary school pupils who entered a Police Week 2010 competition, which asked them to write or draw on the theme "Bridge to the Future".

The winners had lunch with Mr. DeSilva in the officers' mess and received certificates for their outstanding entries.

They were special guests at Bermuda Regiment's Beat the Retreat ceremony on Wednesday night in St. George's.

The students were: Benjamin Floyd, six, from Warwick Academy; Malay Robinson, eight, West End; Izrael Pearman, eight, Prospect; Delasia Williams, nine, Dalton E. Tucker; Sydney West, nine, Victor Scott; Sarai Tucker-Outerbridge, nine, Harrington Sound; and Kristian Singh, ten, Purvis.
