The redrawing of the electoral boundaries has now been completed – Dr. Brown

The committee redrawing the Island's electoral boundaries has finished sitting, the House of Assembly heard this week.

Premier Ewart Brown told MPs on Monday that the work of the Boundaries Commission — which met between last May and January — outlined the "intent of this Government to ensure that all Bermudians are a part of a fair and democratic electoral process".

The six-member commission — chaired by Barbadian policymaker Dame Billie Miller — was appointed by the Governor last year to consider whether the boundaries needed to be changed and make recommendations to Parliament.

The electoral map was last redrawn in 2003, when dual-seat constituencies were got rid of and 36 single seats were created. The Opposition has since called for the boundaries to be redrawn again.

Dr. Brown said the Cabinet Office's Central Policy Unit assisted the secretary to the Commission and was instrumental in helping the committee reconfigure the electoral constituencies.

Government did not respond to questions yesterday about when the Boundary Commission's report would be submitted to the House of Assembly
