The six candidates for two May 6 Parliamentary by-elections were yesterday officially signed up.

In Paget East -- vacant due to the retirement of former Premier Sir John Swan -- three candidates will contest the election for the United Bermuda Party stronghold.

Margaret Isobel (Kim) Young will stand for the UBP. She faces Craig Orlando Walls of the Opposition Progressive Labour Party and UBP maverick Sanders Moen Hutchings Frith Brown, who will stand under the independent Unrestricted Bermuda Party banner.

In Devonshire South, the former seat of last-but-one Premier David Saul, Michael Henry Dunkley will stand for the UBP, Dennis Farias will pitch in for the PLP and Charles Henry Jeffers will fight on behalf of the National Liberal Party.

Candidates for Paget East were signed up at the constituency polling station, the Agricultural Hall at the Botanical Gardens. But candidates were forced to use a table outside the hall because of preparations for this week's Agricultural Show.

The Devonshire South candidates signed on the dotted line at the church hall at Christ Church, Devonshire.

SIGN HERE, PLEASE! -- Hard-to-find Progressive Labour Party leader Jennifer Smith turned out yesterday to assist party candidate in the PLP by-election for Paget East, Craig Walls, to officially sign on the dotted line at the Botanical Gardens' Horticultural Hall.
